Governing Culture

The types of questions the Board is asking, both to themselves and to management, about values and purpose could indicate how effectively they are addressing the impact of organisational culture on corporate performance, explains EY.

Key points include:

  • 73 percent of FTSE 350 annual reports do not explain how culture is measured
  • 61 percent of FTSE 350 annual reports do not explain how culture supports the business model or strategy
  • 86 percent of respondents felt that culture was fundamental or very important to overall strategy and performance
  • 19 percent of boards are primarily accountable for culture
