Steven is Chair of Experian UK, the UK subsidiary of the FTSE 100 multinational consumer credit reporting company, and a Non-executive Director on the Board of FTSE-listed recruitment firm Robert Walters plc. He is also Interim Chair of the UK Government's Social Mobility Commission as well as a Non-executive Director on the Board of a private equity backed payments business.

In May 2021 Steven joined Aldermore Bank as CEO and until recently was CEO of C. Hoare & Co. Prior to this role, he was CEO at Barclaycard Business Solutions, managing the payments division for Barclaycard including Merchant Acquiring, Commercial Payments and Sales Finance. Earlier in his career with Barclays, Steven led Personal Banking for both UK and Europe and has also led UK Business Banking and businesses for Barclays in Africa, India and offshore locations. He also led on community investment and diversity programmes for the UK.

Steven is a passionate advocate for social mobility and a regular speaker and media commentator in his role as Co-Chair of the Social Mobility Commission; the body responsible for promoting social mobility in the UK.

He has served on a variety of Boards, with previous appointments including: Teach First; the Financial Services Compensation Scheme; the Government’s SME task force; the FCA Practitioner Panel; and the Sussex Royal Foundation.

An alumnus of Harvard Business School, Steven was awarded an honorary doctorate from Herriot Watt University in 2019 for services to banking and social mobility. In 2020, he was named Banking CEO of the year by Today Magazine.

Steven lives in London with his wife Pavita and their four children.
