Currently in a portfolio career, John is an Independent Non-Executive Director at Standard Chartered Bank (China) Limited. He was previously Chief Risk Officer Asia Pacific for RBS, a member of the bank's Risk Executive Committee and Supervisory Director of the Board of RBS China.

John has over 40 years of experience leading and delivering major initiatives in corporate and institutional banking, financial markets, consumer and private banking. He was also recently a Senior Adviser at KPMG China, based in Hong Kong focusing on banking and financial services.

While CRO he led initiatives for RBS globally to develop and embed a risk appetite framework and to assess and reshape its risk culture. Prior to being CRO he led the post-acquisition integration of the ABN AMRO Consumer business and subsequently the sale of those businesses. His experience in Asia also includes heading risk for Coutts private banking and setting up a private banking venture in collaboration with Bank of China in Beijing and Shanghai.

John has lived and worked in the UK, Channel Islands, New York and Hong Kong and Beijing.
