Thomas is an internationally experienced board chair and former CEO with nearly four decades of leadership across global listed and private companies in banking, insurance, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and financial-market infrastructure. He possesses profound knowledge of international financial ecosystems, complex regulation, and public policy.
From 2020 to 2025, Thomas served as Chairman of SIX Group and remained a Board Member until May 2026. SIX Group is the infrastructure provider for the Swiss and Spanish financial centers, offering exchange, post-trading, financial information, and banking services across Europe. His extensive governance background includes leading main corporate boards and serving on core audit, compensation, and nomination committees.

In the C-suite, Thomas has driven large-scale organizational turnarounds, restructurings, and technological business model evolutions. He served as CEO of Credit Suisse Financial Services from 2000 to 2002, managing private, retail, and corporate banking alongside insurance operations with CHF 1,300 billion in assets under management. He was also CEO of Winterthur Insurance Company.
Additionally, he spent nearly a decade as Group Chief Operating Officer and Member of the Group Executive Committee at Swiss Re, managing USD 36 billion in gross premiums, and previously served as Head of Corporate Affairs and Member of the Group Executive Committee at Novartis. He also served as Head of the Clariant Performance Improvement Program, reporting directly to the CEO and Board of Directors.

Thomas began his career with a strong global strategic consulting foundation, spending over a decade at McKinsey & Company across Zurich, Tokyo, and New York, becoming Senior Partner and Director.

Throughout his career, Thomas has demonstrated continuous professional reinvention across distinct industries and a proven ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments during periods of transformation and crisis.
