Matthew is Chair of Kier Group, and was Non-executive Director and Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee on the Board of Capita Plc till 2022. As of 2021, he is also the Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Audit Committee Intermediate Capital Group (ICG).
He was a Non-executive Director on the Board of Barclays plc from September 2017 to January 2020, and was also previously a Non-executive Director at Man Group plc.
From September 2013 to July 2017, Matthew was Chief Financial Officer at Royal Mail Group Plc and played a key role in the successful IPO which valued the business at £3.3bn. Prior to joining Royal Mail, Matthew was Group Finance Director at NEX Group Plc (formerly ICAP) and Group Financial Controller and Group Treasurer at Diageo. He has also held positions at Kleinwort Benson and qualified as a chartered accountant with Arthur Andersen.
