Mike Dugdale

Personal Group

Mike is a senior, commercially-focused finance executive now following a plural career following his retirement in September 2020 from Personal Group plc, where he was appointed CFO in 2013. AIM-listed Personal Group provides tailored, flexible and innovative employee services, benefits and insurance products in the UK.

In April 2021 Mike was appointed as a Non-executive Director on the board of Safe World Insurance UK, a niche insurance company specialising in Deposit Protection Insurance and Insurance Backed Guarantees for the UK home improvement industry.

Mike’s other NED and Trustee experience includes setting-up Personal Assurance (Guernsey) Limited, which provides death in service and accidental death cover. Since 2013 he has been a Trustee of Personal Assurance Charitable Trust, which supports local charities as well as building schools in Kenya.  He completed the IOD’s Role of the Non-Executive Director in 2019.

Prior to joining Personal Group, Mike was Finance Director of Virgin Care and before that he was at BUPA, progressing to Finance Director of its UK insurance business. He also spent eight years with Reebok in the UK and Canada in a variety of roles - latterly as international Finance Director for everything outside of North America. In 1996 he joined Guardian Royal Exchange as Group Financial Controller.

He has operated in both Plc and private company structures in the UK and overseas, with strong strategy, investor relations, acquisition, customer service, risk management and governance experience. Mike has worked in numerous environments including: start-up, rapid expansion, M&A, post-merger integration, turnaround, downsizing and company restructuring. He naturally builds strong and lasting business relationships - internally and externally.

Mike qualified as a Chartered Accountant with EY (formerly Ernst & Whinney), in 1983. He is a former amateur motor car racer and keen sportsman.
