Your guide to ESG reporting


With data on ESG now frequently being used alongside other financial and strategic information in investment analysis and decision making, there is a compelling case for companies strengthening their reporting and communication by incorporating ESG issues. ESG goals now apply to all organisations – no matter the size, and in this report The London Stock Exchange Group set out guidance for issuers on integrating ESG into investor reporting and communication.

Within the report, the LSEG have identified 8 priorities for ESG reporting which are carefully laid out across the report and explored with further detail supported by data and research – primary and secondary including input from a range of experts.
 
Key takeaways include:

  • 61 percent of European sustainability reporters use GRI (Global Reporting Initiative Standard – aims to meet the information needs of all stakeholders).
  • 60 percent of assets managed for EU investors incorporate sustainable investment strategies.
  • As a result of this level of activity in ESG reporting, over 80% of the world’s top economies by GDP in 2016 mandated ESG reporting in some form.
  • 82 percent of the green bond market is investment grade (BBB rated or higher).
