Kathryn Britten

Kathryn is a Chartered Accountant with 45 years of experience in audit and accounting and has provided expert witness and advisory services in complex commercial disputes for over 25 years. She has extensive experience in high-profile and sensitive international cases and is one of the United Kingdom’s most senior expert witnesses and forensic accountants.
 
Kathryn has particular experience in disputes and investigations concerning accounting, particularly those arising from mergers and acquisitions, insolvency and audit across a wide range of industries including consumer products, aviation, energy, pharmaceutical and financial services.
 
Kathryn is passionate about helping others (especially women) to achieve their full potential at work and to achieve a balance that gives them fulfilment in all aspects of their lives, including work. Throughout her career she has led and supported many initiatives aimed to improve gender diversity in business and has mentored several successful women in various professions.
 
Kathryn is a regular speaker and panel member at diversity related events and conferences. In addition to regularly presenting at the FT Women in Business Summit, she has spoken at the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), Women in the City, The Law Society, Lloyds Banking Group’s women’s network, the SCC Arbitration Institute, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and the Expert Witness Institute on both technical and DE&I topics. 
 
As a member of the Council (ultimate governing body) of the ICAEW, Kathryn recently chaired its governance review.  She is also a past chair of ICAEW’s audit committee. Kathryn is a founder the London Chamber of Arbitration and Mediation and, in 2022, she co-founded the Equal Representation for Expert Witnesses (ERE) Pledge.  ERE’s purpose is to increase in the number of women appointed as expert witnesses in dispute resolution procedures.  The ERE Pledge now has 1,700 signatories, including 138 organisations, spanning more than 50 countries worldwide.
